Central Saanich Police have arrested two men in relation to a Break and Enter at Integrity Sales on Keating Cross Rd in Central Saanich. Shane Michael SMITH (44) and Gerald Francis LAKE (36) have been charged with Break and Enter with Intent to Commit and Indictable Offence, Possession of Stolen Property under $5000.00 and Possessing an Instrument Suitable for the Purpose of Breaking into a Place. Both men have been released on bail with numerous conditions.
LAKE has also been charged with one count of Theft Under $5000.00 in connection with a cash box taken from a farm stand on Prosser Rd in Central Saanich back in March. LAKE and another man, travelling around in a blue Chevrolet Cruze, were suspects in numerous thefts from farm stands on the peninsula. As a result of information sharing between police agencies, further charges have been laid against LAKE in other jurisdictions.
LAKE makes his next court appearance on May 10, 2017.
Chief Constable Les Sylven advised: “Theft from farm stands has been increasing recently in our community and the police continue to employ various investigative strategies to combat this trend. These crimes of opportunity appear to be carried out by individuals who are addicted to drugs”.
