MEDIA RELEASE - Fatal Motor Vehicle Incident

Central Saanich, BC

On October 20, 2024 at 1006 hours, a 911 call was received of a cyclist struck in the 6400 block of Central Saanich Road, in Central Saanich. Despite the best efforts of Emergency Services and staff at the Victoria General Hospital, the cyclist succumbed to her injuries.
 

The cyclist, a female in her forties, was participating in the 9th annual Tripleshot Cross Fondo bicycle race. Initial investigative steps determined that the accident occurred at the intersection of Central Saanich Road and Tanner Road. The driver of a pick-up truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
 

The incident remains under investigation and we'd ask for any witnesses, or those with dashcam footage, to contact investigators.
 

The Central Saanich Police Service would like to offer their condolences to the family along with thanks to people in the area that rushed to her aid.
