The Central Saanich Police Board is a statutory body created under the BC Police Act. The Board provides independent civilian oversight and governance and is the employer of the Central Saanich Police Department. Our Board is a progressive and community-minded group that strives to maintain a bias-free and approachable Service to ensure the needs of the community are continually being met and exceeded.
Police Board meetings
Board meetings are open to the public and are held in the District of Central Saanich Council Chambers on the second Thursday of each month (excluding July and August). Meetings begin at 4:30 p.m. Please join us - we value your input!

Board Member Sarah RiddellSarah Riddell is a Central Saanich councillor and the municipal appointee to the Central Saanich Police Board. She holds Master’s degrees in Health Administration and Public Administration, and brings nearly 20 years of experience in public policy, evaluation, and operations. Sarah works as the Director of Development for Shoreline Medical Society, a non-profit that provides team-based primary care to the Saanich Peninsula community. She is a strong advocate for equitable access to health services, including mental health and substance use care, and is passionate about building systems that work for everyone. In addition to her professional work, Sarah volunteers with several local healthcare and community service organizations. She also serves as an alternate director at the Capital Regional District. Sarah lives in Central Saanich with her husband and two children and enjoys trail running in her spare time. | |

Board Member Mike McKayMike McKay is beginning his second year as a member of the Central Saanich Police Board. He worked in the K-12 public education sector throughout his career, including as Superintendent of Schools/CEO of Saanich School District in the early 2000’s. Following his retirement (2014) from the Surrey School District Superintendent/CEO role, Mike has continued to provide administrative and leadership service in public education and with other public organizations. | |

Board Member Jordan MarinBorn and raised in Steveston, BC, Jordan Marin served 11 years as a Naval Warfare Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy, where he developed extensive leadership and operational expertise. Following his military career, he transitioned into management consulting, focusing on business strategy and digital transformation initiatives within the government and public sector. With a focus on Canada's defence and security industry, Jordan's work has brought him and his family to Ottawa and now back to Vancouver Island where they settled-down in Saanichton in 2024. Jordan brings a strong background in leadership, strategic planning, and organizational transformation to his current roles and community involvement. | |
Board Member Blair FisherBlair was raised and has lived in Central Saanich for most of his life, attending Brentwood Elementary, Mount Newton Middle School and Stelly's Secondary School. After leaving to the mainland to complete his Criminology Degree at Simon Fraser University and his Masters Degree at UVIC, he chose to return to Central Saanich with his wife and raise two (now adult) daughters. He has worked in the justice field for over 25 years with the John Howard Society of Victoria and teaching in the Criminal Justice Program at Camosun College. |
Appointments
As mandated by the BC Police Act, the Board consists of one member recommended by municipal council and up to seven members of the community. All members, except the Chair, are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. Board members are chosen to reflect the diversity of the community.
The role of the Board
The role of the Police Board is to provide general oversight on governance, budgetary control and policy direction for the Service. Board members act in the best interest of the community and are independent from the police department and the municipal government. In addition, the Police Board is the employer of the Chief Constable, and the sworn and civilian members of the Service. Please see our Governance Manual for more information.
Terms
Board members are appointed for varying terms and may only serve a maximum of six years.
